THE NEW WEEK STARTS with both the Texans and Cowboys facing critical road matchups before a busy night of boys’ and girls’ high school basketball dominates Tuesday. In between, the Rockets host the Trail Blazers, who will have an old friend in tow for Houston.

Sunday: Fresh off their open week, the Texans return to action at the Ravens, where they will face NFL MVP candidate and former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Lamar Jackson. The second-year pro is on pace to become just the second quarterback in league history to rush for 1,000 yards in a season, and it will be up to the Houston defense to contain him. KHOU 11 will have coverage beginning at noon.

The Cowboys look to shake off last week’s loss to the Vikings when they hit the road to face a Lions team that may be without quarterback Matthew Stafford. Now tied with the Eagles for first place in the NFC East, the margin for error will be thin when Fox 26 starts its coverage at noon.

Monday: The Rockets may see a familiar face when they host the Trail Blazers for a 7:00pm tip. Portland signed ex-Rockets forward Carmelo Anthony on Thursday. The former All-Star appeared in 10 games with Houston last season, averaging 13.4 points per game before his controversial release. Whether he suits up or not is up to debate but will make for interesting watching when AT&T Sportsnet Southwest gets its coverage going following the pregame show at 6:30pm.

Tuesday: A full slate of boys’ basketball starts at 7:00pm with Ball High at Clear Creek, Hitchcock at Hardin-Jefferson, Clear Springs at Manvel, Clear Falls at South Houston and Barbers Hill at state-ranked Texas City. State-ranked Fort Bend Hightower visits La Marque at 7:15pm, while Clear Brook at Baytown Lee closes out the schedule at 7:30pm.

In girls’ basketball, Friendswood at Clear Brook tips off at 6:00pm, followed by state-ranked Hitchcock at Houston Wheatley at 6:15pm. Fort Bend Elkins at Clear Creek, Kempner at Clear Falls, Seven Lakes at Clear Springs, La Marque at Dickinson, Dawson at Galveston Ball, Texas City at Nederland and Santa Fe at Pasadena will each start at 7:00pm.
