My Wish List — not My Bucket List

The following is a list of seemingly uninteresting things I wish I could do again. One might say you can still do all those things today so why not? The point of the story is that, as simple as the wants are, I cannot do them again today because I got older, smarter, get tired quicker, suffer from “been there done that” and have too much money to be wasting my time and energy trying to do something like catching a crab for supper. I can buy the crabs already cooked; it’s just not the same today.

1) From a song I heard; I wish I could learn to drive again. At 14,  my dad let me drive our family car from the front yard to the back if I would wash it. I did it nearly every day for a while; loved it.

2) I wish I could go deer hunting with my kids again. I mean real deer hunting like on Kirby Lumber Co. public land where in two years we never saw a deer. Not the deer harvesting that’s called hunting today.

3) I wish I could go crabbing at Dollar Point canal with my wife and kids again. We didn’t’ find out till years later that we were crabbing at the outlet of the City sewage plant. We couldn’t tell by the taste of the crabs.

4) I wish I could get drunk again. Never mind, skip this one. I am however thinking about having a bottle of Scotch placed in my coffin when I go, just in case. Speaking of; my wife has threatened to put a CD player with new batteries and a CD of a song I hate in my coffin just before closing it. Hope she forgets to turn it on.

5) I wish I could have my first date with my wife again. It was a blind date and I was scared of her and what she would think of me. Now she is not bashful and tells me what she thinks of me often. When I get lost in Walmart she won’t even look for me.

6) I wish I could graduate from college again. My wife and I worked unbelievable hard to get me thru. Neither of us thought it possible till one day, after 7-1/2 years, it happened; a very happy day for both of us.

7) I wish I could go fishing again. I owned a boat and fished from when I was about 15 years old. Our kids and I caught lots of fish on several freshwater lakes and Galveston Bay. Don’t need the fish now, don’t want to clean them and sure don’t want to get up before daylight.

8) I wish I could start a new business again. No, I don’t; way to hard and too scary.

9) I wish I could restore another old car and show it in car shows. It was lots of hard work and all day in the sun at fun car shows.

10) I wish we could travel in our motor homes again with our best friends. We did it for 8 years, 150,000 miles and saw 48 states.

11) I wish I could Drag Race at Houston Raceway Park again. If my wife would let me I would do it again this weekend.
