Mustangs girls 200 relay team smashes state 5A record

The Friendswood High School Mustangs Swim and Dive team competed at the two-day State

meet in Austin this past Friday and Saturday, finishing in fourth place out of 110 high schools. This year’s Girls 5A Champions are Lubbock High School who won the State meet with 186 points, Austin

Johnson High School placed second with 177 points, Magnolia High School placed third with

171 points and the Mustangs placed fourth with 168 points. The Mustang Boys Team placed

eighteenth with 48 points.

The Mustang Girls started the meet by setting a new 5A State Record in the 200-yard medley

relay. The team of Peyton Becker, Abigail Nelson, Lezli Sisung, and Olivia Theall set a new 5A

State record with a time of 1:45.21. The relay time also qualifies the team for NISCA All-

America Consideration and new team record.

In the 200-yard individual medley race, Theall placed third in a time of 2:05.45 and Max Hardt

placed second with an All-America Consideration time of 150.26.

Theall swam a 54.04 in the 100-yard butterfly to earn the title of State Champion and her third

All-America time in this event. Sisung finished in third place with a time of 55.04 and All-

America Consideration.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of Peyton Becker, Bella Allen, Abigail Nelson and Leah

Givens placed seventh with a time of 1:40.24.

Sisung placed third in the 100-yard backstroke in an All-America Consideration time of 55.68.

Hardt earned his State Championship title in the 100-yard breaststroke with an All-American

Consideration Time of 55.69.

The girls ended the meet with a third-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of

Lezli Sisung, Abigail Nelson, Leah Givens and Olivia Theall finished in an All-America

Consideration time of 3:30.49, a new team record.

Additional finalist finishes at the meet came from Givens who earned fourteenth-place in the

200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.98 and Becker in the breaststroke with a sixteenth-place

finish and time of 1:09.48.
