AUSTIN, Texas — In recognition of his legislative work in 2019, state Sen. Larry Taylor (R-Friendswood) has been presented with a Texas Legislative Achievement Award from AARP Texas.

Senator Taylor was the sponsor of Senate Bill 1037, which became law and is helping consumers by preventing surprise medical bills from appearing on credit reports. This reform helps to keep an unforeseen medical emergency from becoming a long-lasting financial crisis for families.

Taylor also served as the Senate sponsor for House Bill 2041, which became law and provides consumers with needed transparency when they visit a freestanding emergency room. Under the changes Taylor shepherded through the Legislature, patients can now get more information about prices and insurance coverage when getting treatment, and these health facilities face stiffer penalties for violations.

“Senator Taylor is recognized for his important work to protect consumers,” said Tina Tran, director of the nonpartisan and nonprofit AARP Texas, which has more than 2.3 million members in Texas.

Senator Taylor represents Texas Senate District 11, which includes portions of Brazoria, Galveston and Harris counties in South Texas.
