Galveston County, TX – Heavy rains on Saturday and Tuesday restricted the number of kettles that were able to ring across Galveston County during the first full week of the Red Kettle campaign.
“The Red Kettle campaign is critical to us. It helps determine what needs we will be able to meet in the coming year,” says Major Nathanael Doria of The Salvation Army. “People have been very generous in the first few days of the campaign but the weather has hampered our efforts a bit and now we need to catch up if we are going to raise enough to meet the need for 2021”
“Public contributions to the Red Kettle Campaign enable The Salvation Army to deliver emergency assistance and support to individuals and families who come to us in crisis, often at the very worst times of their life,” continued Major Doria. “If you are out this weekend, please help us catch up by contributing to one of the red kettles at Kroger, Walmart or Hobby Lobby in Galveston County.”
Volunteer support is down this year due to fears related to Covid-19. However, many people have signed up for a paid bell ringer position. Many have been on unemployment for awhile and are extremely grateful for the opportunity to earn some money for their families. The Salvation Army is happy to help these families even as the expenses will increase for the overall campaign.
