Hoops and headers make for busy Tuesday

THE COMBINATION OF basketball and soccer meld for the first time on Tuesday with a host of games and matches. It’s the first Tuesday of what will be the norm once the calendar year flips, giving fans a taste of what lies ahead.

Sunday: The cold winds of Lake Michigan await the Texans when they visit the Bears for a 12:00pm kickoff that will be aired on Fox-26. Temps will be below freezing and a chance of snow is in play.

The Cowboys will also face potentially frigid weather in a road trip at the Bengals that kicks off at 12:00pm. Despite their 3-9 record, Dallas is not completely out of the playoff picture, sitting two games behind the 5-7 Giants in the NFC East. KHOU-11 will have coverage of the game.

Monday: One boys’ basketball game is on the schedule with Fort Bend Bush visiting Clear Brook at 7:00pm.

Tuesday: A busy evening of boys’ basketball tips off with Santa Fe at Caney Creek at 6:00pm, followed by Hitchcock at Galveston O’Connell and Port Arthur Memorial at La Marque at 6:30pm. Clear Falls at Klein Collins, Clear Springs at Dobie, Friendswood at La Porte, Manvel at Galveston Ball and Baytown Sterling at Texas City are each 7:00pm starts.

In girls’ high school basketball, Galveston Ball at Manvel and Texas City at Baytown Sterling each start at 5:45pm. State-ranked Hitchcock visits Danbury and Stafford at La Marque are at 6:30pm, while Clear Brook at Clear Lake, Brazoswood at Clear Creek, Dickinson at Clear Falls, Channelview at Clear Springs and La Porte at Friendswood all start at 7:00pm.

A host of boys’ high school soccer scrimmages are on the slate as well with Fort Bend Willowridge at Clear Brook starting at 5:30pm. Willis at Galveston Ball is at 6:30pm, while Santa Fe at Lamar Consolidated starts at 7:00pm. Friendswood at Clear Creek and Texas City at Dickinson each start at 7:30pm.
