Galveston Art League will draw the winning ticket this Sunday at 1:00pm for a basket stuffed with party goods worth more than $250. Tickets are $10 each, or three for $25, and there’s still time to buy yours.
The basket is overflowing with wine, liquor, snacks, and party accoutrements such as wineglasses, festive napkins, and a nautical wine stopper. The basket contains everything you need for a fun bash, so maybe you could throw a socially distanced New Year’s Eve soiree?
The drawing will be held in the Art League Gallery, 2117A Postoffice St. in downtown Galveston. Until then, you can examine – and buy raffle tickets for – the basket at the gallery from 12:00pm to 6:00pm on Saturday, and until the drawing on Sunday. While you’re there, check out the December sale of art, too, of course.
And if you can’t make it to the gallery but want tickets, please reach out to a league representative at 409-938-1671 or gallery2117@gmail.com.
The party-basket raffle is a fundraiser to help the Galveston Art League with its mission of promoting visual arts and art education throughout the region. The league promotes and sells pieces created by local artists, and it supports art education programs and teachers in Galveston County and beyond. The Art League changes its gallery display each month; three of those exhibits consist of entries accepted into a judged competition, with prizes awarded.
The Art League, an all-volunteer nonprofit organization that has never had a salaried employee, was established in 1914. After the coronavirus threat subsides, the league will resume holding low-cost and free art workshops for all ages as well as hosting art-focused travel. In normal years, the Galveston Art League organizes a fall gala as its primary annual fundraiser to support the gallery and other outreach. The coronavirus derailed the gala in 2020, of course.
The Art League also counts on tax-deductible contributions and tax-deductible membership fees – welcoming both non-artists and artists to its ranks – to finance its mission and gallery overhead. You can learn about membership levels and pricing at www.GalvestonArtLeague.com (click on “Join” at the top of the homepage). Art League members are entitled to many perks such as exclusive preview parties, early notifications about workshops (enrollment is limited), and a subscription to the organization’s electronic newsletter.
As you click around the Art League’s website, please also view recent sales items – links to art from the October, November and December shows are on the homepage. The website offers simple shopping with a credit card, and delivery or curbside pickup is available.
Galveston Art League invites locals and tourists to visit its gallery noon to 6 p.m. Fridays-Sundays to view ready-to-hang 2-D art (framed paintings, photography, and collages) as well as 3-D items like jewelry, art glass, sculpture, pottery, and artisanal wood creations such as pens and bowls.
