Week 1 of high school football season begins

Congrats. We’ve made it to the end of August, which means the start of the high school football season, with Clear Springs at Katy and Manvel at Dickinson being the highlight games of Week 1. Not to be outdone, high school volleyball will be tourney heavy, as Clear Springs and Santa Fe represent the area at VolleyPalooza.

Wednesday: The Astros conclude their homestand with an early 12:10pm start against the Royals. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts coverage at 11:30am with the pregame show.

Thursday: The 2021 high school football schedule kicks off as Texas City visits Clear Brook at Challenger/Columbia Stadium at 6:00pm.

In high school volleyball, Clear Springs and Santa Fe are among the schools competing at VolleyPalooza in Austin, while Friendswood and Galveston Ball will be at the George Ranch Tournament. Hitchcock will be at the Rice Consolidated Tournament, while Texas City is at the Dayton Tournament.

Friday: Week 1 of the high school football season really kicks in with Dawson at Clear Falls (CCISD Stadium), Clear Springs visiting defending 6A, Division I champion and state-ranked Katy, state-ranked Manvel at Dickinson, Summer Creek at Friendswood, Galveston Ball at La Marque, and Santa Fe at Brazoswood each kick off at 7:00pm, while Hitchcock gets its season underway at Van Vleck at 7:30pm.

The high school volleyball schedule will have Clear Brook at Fort Bend Clements and Klein Oak at Clear Springs at 5:30pm. College Station at Clear Creek tips off at 6:00pm, while Dickinson at Baytown Sterling, Pasadena Memorial at Friendswood and Humble at Galveston Ball each start at 6:30pm.

Texas City’s tennis team hits the road to take on Angleton at 4:00pm.

Up the road on I-45 go the Astros, who open a weekend series at the Rangers starting at 6:05pm. That means that AT&T Sportsnet Southwest (Astros) and Fox Sports Southwest (Rangers) will have coverage starting at 5:30pm with the pregame show. The game will also be a part of the ESPN+ package.

Saturday: The first week of the high school football season concludes with Clear Creek at Oak Ridge at 6:00pm.

It’s an earlier start time for the Astros and Rangers, this time beginning at 5:05pm. Again, AT& Sportsnet Southwest and Fox Sports Southwest will have coverage starting at 4:30pm.
