Zion Canyon in Utah is one of many awe-inspiring stops during an eight-day spring 2022 trip through the West that is sponsored by Galveston Art League. The tour is open to anyone and everyone – no need to be an Art League member. Details: nghouse1@verizon.net.

Galveston Art League is hosting a spring trip, “Painted Canyons of the West,” with visits to many scenic panoramas of the American West. Dates are April 25-May 3, 2022. Nonmembers as well as members of the Art League may take this trip and experience the West’s natural beauty. The tour company that organized this tour is Collette, a company known for providing luxurious hotels, excellent restaurant meals, and a well-thought out itinerary.

The eight-day tour will start in Denver, and the first destination is Colorado National Monument, a site that many consider one of the most amazing Western landscapes. Then going along the Upper Colorado Byway, the next stop will be Moab, Utah, to take in Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park. The fourth day will end at the steep sandstone cliffs of Dead Horse Point State Park, a huge desert landscape of desert woodlands, canyons, star-filled nights, and golden sunrises and sunsets.

After that, the tour heads to red rock country, to Capitol Reef National Park, which is described as a geologic wrinkle in the earth. The rugged terrain features cliffs, canyons, domes and bridges. Overnight will be spent in Bryce, Utah, getting everyone on the tour in place for the thrilling Bryce Canyon National Park the next day.

The last full day of natural wonders will be an artist’s dream: traveling in an open-air tram, following the Virgin River through the 2,400-foot deep Zion Canyon. The afternoon is unscheduled so that any artists on the trip may engage in photography, sketching or painting as desired.

On day eight, May 2, the tour group will be in Las Vegas, and a free day to spend as each person wishes.

All throughout the trip, Collette’s experienced staffers will take care of travel details, from delivering everyone to well-appointed overnight accommodations and nice restaurants to guiding them to the breathtaking scenery. Because some of the travelers are working artists, the guides will honor requests to capture the scenes in photos and other artistic media.

If you register for the trip before Oct. 25, you will save $100 per person: double, $3,499; single, $4,399; triple, $3,449. These amounts include round-trip air from George Bush International Airport (IAH), air fare taxes and fees, and hotel transfers. A trip cancellation waiver and insurance will be an added $299 per person. If you purchase this insurance, which is recommended, Collette will refund the full price of the tour through the day before departure.
