Matt Bentley announced his resignation as head football coach/athletic director at Santa Fe High School on Monday.
Bentley, who replaced Mark Kanipes in the spring of 2018, put together a 5-25 record in his three seasons with the Indians. Santa Fe was unable to establish a foothold in a rugged district that included Port Neches-Groves, Crosby, and Texas City, had just a 2-19 mark in district play.
Bentley is the first area high school football coach to leave his position this offseason.
Santa Fe ISD will post the official opening for the position later this week and will immediately begin its search for a new coach.
The news was originally announced by Texas Football’s Matt Stepp.
