October is such a beautiful month, as the pinata of sports is overstuffed with everything from high school football to high school cross-country to high school volleyball and NBA preseason and….well, you get the picture.
Wednesday: The Astros conclude the regular season with a 3:10pm start time against the Phillies. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts coverage at 2:30pm with the pregame show.
Thursday: Houston helps get the college football weekend off with a 6:30pm date at Memphis that will be aired on ESPN2.
Friday: The high school football slate will have Clear Brook at Clear Lake (Challenger/Columbia), Clear Falls at Dickinson, Brazoswood at Clear Springs (Veterans Memorial), La Marque at Sweeny, Nederland at Santa Fe and Fort Bend Marshall at Texas City (Victory Sports Net) each starting at 7:00pm, with Yoakum at Hitchcock starting at 7:30pm.
Meanwhile the high school volleyball schedule begins with Galveston Ball at Santa Fe at 4:30pm, followed by Brazoswood at Clear Brook, Clear Creek at Clear Lake, Clear Falls at Clear Springs, Harmony at Hitchcock and La Porte at Santa Fe each starting at 6:00pm. Angleton at Friendswood and La Marque at Sweeny start at 6:30pm.
Both Texas City and La Marque will compete in the Skyline Drive cross-country event that will be held in Texas City.
The water polo regular season wraps up as Clear Springs at Clear Brook and Clear Creek at Clear Lake compete for postseason berths. The girls play at 5:30pm, while the boys get going at 7:00pm.
Yup, the NBA season is right around the corner, as the Rockets host the Raptors for a 7:00pm preseason game. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts coverage at 6:30pm with the pregame show.
Saturday: Two high school football games are on tap as Friendswood visits Fulshear at 11:00am, while Galveston Ball is at Houston Austin for a 6:00pm kickoff.
The college football schedule kicks off with Texas meeting Oklahoma in the Red River Shootout at Dallas’ Cotton Bowl (ABC13) at 11:00am, followed by TSU at Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 2:00pm. Lamar at Incarnate Word (ESPN3) and Southern at Prairie View (ESPN+) each start at 4:00pm. Nicholls at Houston Baptist (ESPN+) and Abilene Christian at Stephen F. Austin (ESPN+) each kicks off at 6:00pm, with Texas A&M at #1 Alabama (CBS11) capping off the evening at 7:00pm.
