State Title Dreams Begin for Track & Field, Boys’ Golf

Every ending has a beginning, and for area track and field and boys’ golfers, their respective roads to the state finals begin this week with district tournaments on Wednesday and Thursday. District 24-6A actually got things underway on Monday with the field events at Challenger/Columbia Stadium.

Wednesday: District 18-5A (Friendswood, Galveston Ball, Santa Fe, Texas City) begins at 10:00 am at TCISD Stadium with the field events while the District 24-6A (Clear Brook, Clear Creek, Clear Falls, Clear Springs, Dickinson) track and field finals conclude at Challenger/Columbia Stadium beginning at 5:00pm. It is also the same time La Marque begins competing in the District 26-4A track and field prelims and when Hitchcock begins in the District 24-3A meet.

The road to state also begins for boys golfers in both 18-5A and 24-6A, with the former competing at Galveston’s Moody Gardens and the latter playing at Bay Forest in La Porte. Both meets conclude on Thursday.

Thursday: Both District 26-4A and 18-5A will conclude their track and field finals beginning at 5:00pm.

The Rockets will have a chance to close in on the final Western Conference Play-In spot when they host the Warriors, the team currently in possession of it, beginning at 7:00pm. Space City Home Network will have the game live beginning with the pregame show at 6:30pm.

Friday: The high school baseball schedule starts at 4:00pm with Galveston Ball at Clear Falls, followed at 6:00pm by Clear Creek at Clear Brook, Clear Lake at Clear Springs, Brazoswood at Dickinson, Friendswood at Manvel, La Marque at Stafford and Santa Fe at Texas City. Boling at Hitchcock begins at 7:00pm.

Meanwhile, the high school softball slate begins at 6:00pm with La Marque at Stafford, followed at 6:30pm by Clear Brook at Clear Lake, Dickinson at Clear Falls, Brazoswood at Clear Springs, Angleton at Santa Fe and Galveston Ball at Texas City.

Starting their first road series of the season, the Astros head up I-45 North to collide with their arch rival (and defending World Series champion) Rangers beginning at 7:05pm. The 2023 American League Championship Series will be aired on Apple TV+. 

There is no rest for the weary as the Rockets host the defending Eastern Conference champion Heat at 7:00pm Space City Home Network will have the game starting with the pregame show at 6:30pm.

Saturday: Friendwood’s softball team visits Spring Branch for an 11:00 am start. 

Astros v. Rangers continue at 6:05pm with Space City Home Network (Astros) and Bally Sports Southwest Extra both starting their respective pregame shows at 6:30pm.

The Dynamo look to continue their strong start to the season when they visit Chicago Fire FC at 7:30pm. The match can be seen as part of the Apple TV MLS Pass.
