November 12, 2018 – Family Service Center of Galveston County will host an Open House to celebrate the gift of the Mary Moody Northen Honeymoon Cottage. In 2018, in remembrance of Mrs. Northen’s love for the children and families of the Galveston community, the Board of Directors of the Mary Moody Northen Endowment deeded the “Honeymoon Cottage” to the Family Service Center of Galveston County. W.L. Moody, Jr. had this home built for his beloved older daughter, Mary Elizabeth, and her husband, E.C. “Mike” Northen, in 1916, shortly after their marriage. Mike and Mary lived in the home located at 2902 Broadway until Mike’s death in 1954. Dr. Julie Purser, FSC’s Executive Director states, “We are so pleased to be entrusted with this property. A huge thanks to The Mary Moody Northen Board of Directors for choosing Family Service Center to occupy Mrs. Northen’s Honeymoon Cottage.” FSC has had a year of growth: an additional 10 staff members have been hired to ensure the needs of children, youth, individuals, and families are met following Hurricane Ike and the Santa Fe High School shooting. To accommodate the need for additional counseling offices, FSC’s Executive Team relocated to 2902 Broadway. FSC continues to maintain counseling offices at 2200 Market Street, Suite 600, in Galveston and at 2401 Termini, Suite C, in Dickinson. The entire community is welcome to come and celebrate FSC’s new office space and learn more about the services provided on Thursday, November 15, 2018, from 4pm – 6:30pm at 2902 Broadway, Galveston, Texas.
