LM’s Wilcox tabbed as 24-4A boys’ hoops coach of the year
FOR A SECOND STRAIGHT year, La Marque’s Kevin Wilcox was named coach of the year as the
second-year boys’ basketball coach received the honor from his District 24-4A peers this week.
Wilcox led the Cougars to a 21-14 overall record and the district championship as the program
made the postseason for a seventh straight campaign.
La Marque’s David Owens was selected as the district’s top defensive player and was one of
four Cougars who were named to the 24-4A first team, joining Willie Johns, Jordan Ivy-Curry
and Edward Robinson Jr. Also named to the first team were Anthony Perry, Marcus Edwards
and Ke’Vaughn Gaskin of Bay City, Ray Bell, Sincere Mitchell and Cameron Ward of Brazosport
and Trevin Parson of Sweeny.
Perry was selected as the district’s most valuable player while Ward received offensive player
of the year honors. Columbia’s Zade Stroman and Brazosport’s Rito Carrizales shared newcomer
of the year.
La Marque’s Rha’Sean Booker and Landon Garner were named to the second team along with
Sultan Abdullah and Lane Johnson of Columbia, Rodney Mitchell and T.J. Roberson of Bay City,
Elliott Cundiff and Christian Guevara of Brazosport and Courtlyn Davidson of Sweeny.
Kameron Adams, Jeremy Arvie and Christopher Rondeau of La Marque received honorable
mention along with Ja’Marcus James of Brazosport, Justice Clemons of Sweeny and Allen Reyna
of Columbia.
