THE NEW WEEK means each area high school football team will be in fall practice. It also means a busy Tuesday afternoon and evening of high school volleyball along with the Astros continuing to mow down opponents on their way to locking up another American League West title.
Sunday: The Astros close out a weekend set at the Orioles by throwing ace Justin Verlander (15-4, 2.68 ERA) against the American League cellar-dwellers. Baltimore will counter with rookie Tom Eshelman (1-2, 6.53 ERA) when the teams square off at 12:05pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will start coverage with the pregame show at 11:30am.
The Dynamo conclude a two-match swing out east with a clash against the Philadelphia Union at 5:00pm. KUBE 57 and TeleXitos and HoustonDynamo.com will each have the match live.
Monday: Expect baseballs to fly with frequency when the Astros visit the White Sox at 7:10pm. Fresh off a win in his first start with his new team, Zack Greinke (11-4, 3.08 ERA) gets the nod against Chicago’s top pitching prospect Dylan Cease (2-4, 6.00 ERA). Guaranteed Rate Field is one of the most homer-friendly parks in baseball, which should make fans tune in at 7:10pm on AT&T Sportsnet Southwest after the pregame show kicks off things at 6:30pm.
Tuesday: If it’s Tuesday, there’s volleyball to be played, and there’s almost a full slate. Fort Bend Willowridge visits La Marque at 3:00pm, followed by Clear Brook at Memorial at 5:30pm. Dawson at Clear Creek and Atascosita at Deer Park are each 6:00pm starts, while Clear Springs at Deer Park, Texas City in a tri-match with C.E. King and host Fort Bend Marshall, state-ranked Friendswood at Kingwood Park, Santa Fe at Needville and Galveston Ball at Port Neches-Groves will start their matches at 6:30pm.
Gerrit Cole (14-5, 2.87 ERA) takes the mound in search of an 11th straight win as the Astros take on the White Sox in the middle game of the series starting at 7:10pm. Chicago will go with Ivan Nova (7-9, 4.80 ERA) when AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts its game coverage following the pregame show at 6:30pm.
