Week 1 of the NFL season kicked off on Thursday and is also a reminder that La Marque High School alum Norm Bulaich had one of the best Opening Week performances in league history when he rushed for 198 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries during the Baltimore Colts’ 22-0 win over the New York Jets on September 19, 1971. Bulaich’s effort is the eighth-best rushing performance in a regular season opener.

For the record, former Houston Texan Arian Foster’s 231-yard outing in their 34-24 win over the Indianapolis Colts on September 12, 2010 is the second-best rushing performance in Week 1, exceeded only by Buffalo Bills Hall of Famer O.J. Simpson’s 250 yards against the New England Patriots on September 16, 1973.
