Basketball Season Begins (Boys’ Edition)

The 2025-26 boys’ basketball season begins on Friday, with several of the area’s teams in action. Dickinson and state-ranked Friendswood each open the season with high-profile matchups as part of the annual RCS Sports Regular Season Opener, which will be held at Campbell Center in Houston.

Wednesday: The Rockets host the Wizards at 7 PM. Space City Home Network begins coverage at 6:30 PM with the pregame show. 

Thursday: In girls’ basketball, Clear Creek ISD hosts the annual Peggy Whitely Classic, as each of the district’s five high schools will be joined by a host of schools that include Ball, Friendswood, and Texas City during the three-day tourney. Meanwhile, La Marque will be at the Conroe Tournament, and Santa Fe will compete in the Baytown Lee Tournament. 

Friday: Opening night of the 2025-26 boys’ basketball regular season starts with Clear Springs at Pearland and Barbers Hill at Santa Fe at 7 PM. State-ranked Friendswood faces Second Baptist at the RCS Sports Season Opener at Houston’s Campbell Center at 8 PM.

The Rockets host the Trail Blazers at 7 PM. Space City Home Network begins coverage at 6:30 PM with the pregame show. 

Saturday: Boys’ basketball continues at noon with Clear Falls at Woodlands Christian, followed at 1 PM by Ball at Montgomery and Clear Creek at Strake Jesuit. Houston Heights vs. Dickinson at the RCS Season Opener at Houston’s Campbell Center is at 6 PM. 

The college football schedule begins at 11 AM with South Carolina at #3 Texas A&M (ESPN), followed by Arkansas-Pine Bluff at Prairie View and Texas Southern at Southern at 2 PM. Houston Christian at East Texas State (ESPN+) is at 4 PM, while Delaware at Sam Houston State (ESPN+) and Lamar at Stephen F. Austin (ESPN+) both kick off at 6 PM. The day is capped off by #11 Texas at #5 Georgia (KTRK13) at 6:30 PM.
