MONDAY offers something for everyone in the local sports world, with
baseball, football and soccer taking the forefront. The start of the week
also presents a chance to see a potential future baseball Hall of Famer
move closer to a milestone moment.
SUNDAY: Father’s Day will see Lance McCullers Jr. (8-3, 3.83 ERA) get
the starting nod for the Astros in the finale of a weekend set at the Royals,
who will counter with rookie Brad Keller (1-2, 2.31 ERA). Gametime
starts at 1:15pm with AT&T Sportsnet Southwest’s coverage starting at
12:30pm.
MONDAY: There is still time to register for the two-day Texas City Stings
Baseball Camp. The camp, which is for incoming sixth thru ninth grade
players, will be held at Robinson Stadium from 9:00am to 12:00pm. Cost
for the basics camp is $60 and $70 for players attending the pitcher/
catcher only camp on Wednesday from 10:00am to 12:00pm. The cost for
the catcher/pitcher session will be $30. Campers will need bats, gloves,
fielding gloves and tennis shoes for the 13 and 14-year-olds attending.

The day will have another late afternoon of 7 on 7 football at Stingaree
Stadium in Texas City. Hitchcock, La Marque and Santa Fe will be part
of the second Monday of high school players tuning up for the upcoming
season. Attendance is free.
Returning to Minute Maid Park after a cross country road trip, the Astros
welcome the Rays beginning at 7:10pm. Gerrit Cole (7-1, 2.16 ERA) takes
the mound for Houston while Tampa Bay remains undecided on who gets
the start. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will begin its coverage beginning
with the pregame show at 6:30pm.
Right up the street from Minute Maid Park, the Dynamo will meet Minnesota
United in a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open round of 16 match beginning
at 7:30pm. The Dynamo will look to get one step closer to at least equaling
their semifinal appearances in 2006 and 2009. Fans can go to the
Dynamo website to purchase tickets for the match at BBVA Compass
Stadium.
TUESDAY: Four wins away from 200 career wins, Justin Verlander (8-2,
1.45 ERA) starts for the Astros as they take on the Rays beginning at
7:10pm. Blake Snell (8-3, 2.30 ERA) is scheduled to start for Tampa Bay
in the middle game of the series. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will start its
coverage at 6:30pm, leading in to the first pitch.
