We must do things God’s way.

To be safe we must follow the Lord’s leadership, not ours’.
Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
Life is often filled with storms. We must learn to find Christ as our “safety in the storm.”

Many times in our life, unbeknownst to us without any warning, a storm occurs. We all will face storms in our lives. No one has a life without storms.
We all have an example of our lives in a storm (Read Mark 4:35-41).
The disciples of Jesus were involved in a busy day of ministry and instruction. In fact, the Bible tells us that storms come during the busy days of life; sometimes in the middle of our best days we face storms.
The storm that the disciples faced came to them while they were living in obedience to God’s Word. Jesus instructed the disciples to pass over to the other side of the lake.
Disobedient Christians face chastisement. Obedient Christians learn to live through the trials of life (Read James 1:2-4).
Trials & storms were not restricted to the disciples in Jesus. Mark 4:36 says that there were other little ships with them. We should keep in mind we are not the only people with problems. Many people go through what we experience.
2 Cor. 10:13 reads, “No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.”
It is important that trial or the storm occurred while the disciples were in the presence of Christ. Jesus was sound asleep in the bottom of the ship.
Life will be filled with storms. We must learn to find Christ as our “safety in the storm!”
Identify the Storm
A storm on the Sea of Galilee was not your average storm. The storm was unexpected. It was a disruption, and life is filled with them.
Disruptive moments of crisis: the things in life, we cannot control.
Disruptive moments of aging: we cannot avoid.
Disruptive moments of discipline: the things we would rather not do.
Things which take us by surprise are the things that bring pressure into our lives.
The storms on the Sea of Galilee are like the storms of life: they come quickly & can take you by surprise.
The disciples looked at both what was happening and Jesus sleeping in the boat, and wondered, “what in the world is going on? Why is this happening?”
Ask yourself this question: Why do storms come into our lives?
Sometimes, it is our own fault. Jonah faced a storm that was caused by his own disobedience and was thrown overboard.
Jonah 1:10-12 reads, “This terrified them, (They knew he was running from the LORD, because he had already told them). They asked him, “What should we do to you to make the sea calm down for us?”
“Pick me up and throw me into the sea,” he replied, “and it will become calm.”
Storm come as testing from God.
This storm in Mark 4:35-41 came because God was trying to teach the disciples more about Him. In every storm we can & should learn a lesson from God.
Psalms 119:71 reads, “It was good for me to be afflicted, so that I might learn your decrees.”
Sometimes, storms come from the enemy. The devil is a skillful enemy to the believer & desires to defeat us.
Ephesians 6:10-11 tells us “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”
The pressure of this storm caused the disciples to turn to the Lord.
Jesus is sufficient for every storm. Although storms can be destructive, they are always temporary!
Romans 8:18 reads, “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”
The disciples panicked because the storm threatened to destroy them.
Think about the storms in your life. You have two options. 1. Stop worry & assume that Jesus no longer cares or 2. Put your trust in Christ & walk through your fears with Him.
God permits storms to come that are bigger & greater than our skills.
However, God also exposes our weakness so we can trust in Him!
