Susan Pinkerton’s work is diverse, ranging from landscapes to abstracts and portraits. She is the Featured Artist at the Galveston Art League, 2117A Postoffice St. in downtown Galveston, from Oct. 31-Nov. 29. Gallery hours are noon to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
As the Galveston Art League’s Featured Artist for November, Susan Ouren Pinkerton will exhibit about a dozen paintings in the league’s gallery, 2117A Postoffice, Galveston. Her pieces and other works by Art League members are displayed noon to 6 p.m. weekends in the gallery; to view and buy the same art online, visit www.GalvestonArtLeague.com (click on “November Show”). Pinkerton’s stint as Featured Artist will be Oct. 31-Nov. 29.
She took an indirect path toward art. Pinkerton had graduated from the University of Houston-Clear Lake, earning biology and chemistry degrees, and her educational background led to a profession in those fields. But she steadfastly kept one foot planted in the art world, appreciating and studying others’ creations.
Ultimately Pinkerton left what she calls “my left-brained world” and became a partner in a Houston gallery.
Dealing in art developed into an enduring passion, and while Pinkerton was taking care of gallery business, she studied and explored her own artistic abilities. She is grateful to the teachers who continue to inspire and encourage her pursuits. “I’m currently focusing on painting with ever-challenging watercolors,” says Pinkerton, who earlier had painted using pastels and oils.
A Houston resident for 30 years, Pinkerton will participate in the Brushes by the Beach plein air (outdoor painting) contest being held on Galveston Island through Nov. 8. She is a Signature Member of the National Society of Artists; her other memberships include the Watercolor Society of Houston, the Baytown Art League, and the Bay Area Plein Air Painters. And, of course, she also belongs to the Galveston Art league, holding a professional membership in that all-volunteer organization.
Founded in 1914, Galveston Art League depends on tax-deductible memberships like Pinkerton’s to support its cause: advancing visual arts and art education in and beyond Galveston County. The Art League invites non-artists as well as artists to join. To learn more about the organization and its membership levels, please visit www.GalvestonArtleague.com and click on “Join.”
