Galveston’s Evans reps area on Super Sunday

In case you didn’t know, they are playing a football game with some significance on Sunday. Once that’s over, there’s still a heaping helping of high school sports sprinkled in with a pair of road games from the Rockets.

Sunday: Super Bowl 55 kicks off at 5:30pm as the Chiefs look to repeat as champions at the expense of the Buccaneers, who are the first team to ever play for it all in their home stadium. Much of the county will be pulling its support around Galveston Ball alum Mike Evans, who becomes the 16th player from the area to appear in the Super Bowl. 

The game will be aired live on KHOU-11.

Monday: Texas City and Santa Fe will be making up both a boys’ and girls’ basketball game, as the Stings’ boys’ will play host at 6:00pm, while the Indians will play the role of host for the girls’ game, which tips off at 5:00pm.

Galveston Ball’s baseball team takes part in a tri-scrimmage that will be hosted by Clear Creek and will include North Shore. The teams will under way at 3:00pm. One other baseball scrimmage will have Texas City at Dickinson at 5:00pm.

Both Santa Fe and Texas City’s boys’ golf teams will take part in a tourney at Golfcrest, an all-day event that will be hosted by Pearland High School.

The Rockets slip out of town for a brief two-game road trip that begins with the Hornets starting at 6:00pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest begins its pregame show at 5:30pm that will lead into tip off.

Tuesday: Softball takes centerstage on the schedule, beginning with South Houston at La Marque and Brazoswood at state-ranked Santa Fe each starting at 4:30pm. Hitchcock at Anahuc begins at 6:00pm, followed by Galveston Ball at Clear Creek, state-ranked Dickinson at Pasadena Memorial, Katy Tompkins at Friendswood and Texas City at Danbury each starting at 6:30pm.

The baseball scrimmage schedule will have South Houston at Santa Fe at 4:00pm, followed by Lutheran South at state-ranked Friendswood at 4:30pm and Hitchcock at La Marque at 5:00pm.

In boys’ high school basketball, state-ranked La Marque at Stafford tips off at 6:30pm, while Hitchcock at Danbury starts at 7:30pm.

The evening’s sole high school girls’ basketball game has Galveston Ball at Santa Fe for a 7:00pm start.

A busy high school boys’ soccer slate has Dickinson at Clear Brook, Clear Creek at Clear Lake, Brazoswood at Clear Springs, Baytown Sterling at Friendswood, Santa Fe at La Porte and Texas City at Goose Creek Memorial. Each match starts at 7:30pm.

On the high school girls’ soccer side of things, Clear Brook at Dickinson, Clear Lake at Clear Creek, Clear Springs at Brazoswood, Friendswood at Baytown Sterling, La Porte at Santa Fe and Goose Creek at Texas City are also 7:30pm starts.

Houston wraps up its two-game road swing with a visit to New Orleans that starts at 7:00pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will have the game live after the pregame show, which begins at 6:30pm.
