POST ICE AGE, THE GAMES CONTINUE

The games will continue, albeit with a chill in the air. Highlighting the week
will be the continuation of girls’ high school basketball playoff action and
the beginning of the boys’ hoops playoff bracket. There’s also a host of
softball tourneys to be played, while the final tuneups before the start of
high school baseball season are on the slate.
WEDNESDAY: The local sports scene begins to (literally) thaw out with a
handful of girls’ high school basketball area round games. State-ranked Clear Springs takes on Atascocita in a 6A, Region III matchup at Crosby High School at 5:30pm, the same time Clear Creek faces West Brook at CE King High School. Friendswood meets Angleton in a 5A, Region III contest at Fort Bend ISD Hopson Field House at 7:00pm.
In boys’ basketball, Clear Lake takes on Clear Falls for the final playoff spot in District 24-6A at 5:30pm. The game will be played at Clear Creek High School.
La Marque’s soccer teams welcome Huffman-Hargrave for matches that were originally scheduled for Tuesday. The girls’ match starts at 5:30pm, while the boys’ get underway at 7:30pm.
Santa Fe visits Clear Brook for a high school baseball scrimmage that starts at 4:00pm.
The Rockets conclude their road swing as they pay a visit to the 76ers at 6:30pm,
a game that will be televised nationally on ESPN.
THURSDAY: The first week of high school softball season brings tournaments, as Clear Brook heads out for the Crosby ISD Tournament. Clear Creek, Clear Falls, Clear Springs and Galveston Ball are each at the Lonestar Tournament in Houston, while state-ranked Dickinson will be at the Sterling/Lee/GCM Tournament in Baytown. Hitchcock is at the Rice Tournament, while state-ranked Santa Fe is in tourney play in College Station. Texas City will be at the Katy Tournament.
In track and field, Clear Springs will be among the teams competing in the Manvel/Dawson Tournament.
Texas City’s girls’ golf team will be hosting a tournament at Bayou Golf Club
beginning at 7:30am.
FRIDAY: High school boys’ basketball bi-district round games will get underway with state-ranked Clear Brook at Pearland at Dawson High School at 7:00pm in a 6A, Region III clash, the same time Dickinson meets Dawson at Manvel High School. Texas City takes on Crosby at Shadow Creek High School in a 5A, Region III showdown at 7:00pm.
The high school boys’ soccer slate will have Clear Brook at Clear Lake, Brazoswood at Clear Creek, Clear Falls at Dickinson, Galveston Ball at Friendswood, La Marque at Splendora, Santa Fe at Manvel and Texas City at Baytown Lee each starting at 7:30pm.
Meanwhile in girls’ soccer, Clear Lake at Clear Brook, Clear Creek at Brazoswood, Dickinson at Clear Springs, Friendswood at Galveston Ball, La Marque at Splendora, Manvel at Santa Fe and Baytown Lee at Texas City each also begin at 7:30pm.
The high school baseball scrimmage schedule will have Clear Falls at Kingwood Park at 4:00pm, followed by Kingwood at Clear Creek and a clash between state-ranked Friendswood at state-ranked Clear Springs at 4:30pm. Clear Lake at Texas City begins at 5:00pm, while Dobie at Clear Brook starts at 5:30pm.
In high school tennis, Clear Brook, Clear Creek, Clear Falls and Clear Springs
will be at the Foster/Holtman Tournament in Pearland, while Friendswood will be at the Baytown Lee Tournament. Galveston Ball will be among the teams at the La Porte Tournament.
The track and field schedule will see Clear Brook, Clear Creek and Texas City each competing in the Indians Relays in Santa Fe. Friendswood is at the Maverick Stampede Invitational at Pasadena Memorial.
The Rockets return home to Toyota Center for a contest against the rival Mavericks starting at 7:00pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts coverage with the pregame show at 6:30pm.
Saturday: One high school softball game on the schedule, as La Marque visits, East Chambers at 1:30pm.
Texas City visits Baytown Sterling in girls’ soccer at 2:00pm.
Santa Fe hosts Pearland in a baseball scrimmage that starts at 4:00pm.
The Rockets will be at home when they take on the Pacers starting at 7:00pm.
AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts coverage at 6:30pm.
