Thursday’s University Interscholastic League’s bi-annual realignment resulted with each of the area’s 11 high school football teams split between four classifications and six different districts.
Friendswood and Galveston Ball were impacted the most. The Mustangs will now be a part of District 10-5A, Division I along with Angleton, Fort Bend Kempner, Lamar Fulshear, Magnolia, Magnolia West, Manvel, Richmond Foster and Rosenberg Terry.
For the first time in decades, Ball will not be in a district that has either Friendswood, Santa Fe, and/or Texas City as the Tors are now members of District 9-5A-1 with Houston ISD schools Austin, Madison, Milby, Northbrook, Sharpstown, Sterling, Waltrip and Wisdom.
Beyond the changes involving Friendswood and Ball, little has changed.
District 24-6A remains the same, with Brazoswood and Dickinson joined at the hip with each of the five Clear Creek ISD high schools (Brook, Creek, Falls, Lake and Springs).
Santa Fe and Texas City are members of District 9-5A-2, sharing the district with Dayton, Fort Bend Marshall, Fort Bend Willowridge, Galena Park, Nederland and Port Neches-Groves.
There are no changes for La Marque, which is a part of 10-4A-2. The Cougars will see familiar foes Bellville, Brookshire Royal, Sealy, Sweeny, Columbia and Wharton.
Hitchcock is a member of District 12-3A-1, as the Bulldogs will compete with Columbus, Hallettsville, Hempstead and Yoakum.
For other sports:
*District 24-6A will remain intact.
*Ball, Friendswood, Santa Fe and Texas City will comprise the new District 18-5A, which will include Angleton, La Porte and Manvel.
*District 26-4A will have La Marque, along with Bay City, Brazosport, Columbia, Iowa Colony, Stafford and Sweeny.
*Hitchcock is still part of District 24-3A, which will also have Boling, Brazos, Danbury, East Bernard, Hempstead, Houston Harmony, and Van Vleck.
