Pending approval from city council, Doug Balli will be named the new police chief of Galveston on Thursday.
Certainly serving as the interim police chief, Balli is a 26-year veteran of GPD, having served in various roles including sargent, lieutenant and assistant police chief. Balli has also served as chairman of the City of Galveston Health Board and Galveston Employees Retirement Plan for Police.
“Doug is a longtime Galveston PD Officer that I have known for most of my adult life. Doug is a man of the utmost integrity and shares my love and passion for this island and its residents. I look forward to working with him,” said Galveston City Manager Brian Maxwell in a statement.
A native of Galveston, Balli has been serving as the city’s interim police chief since the resignation of Vernon Hale in October.
Balli will be overseeing a staff of over 140 that protect and serve as the first line of defense for the city of over 50,000.
