
The weekend is filled with sports across the board, with action taking place everywhere from Texas City to Austin as baseball, softball, track and field, tennis and water polo taking center stage. The Rockets continue to limp to the finish line of the regular season while Houston’s men’s basketball team looks to move back into the Final Four.
Wednesday: Final round action of the District 22-5A girls’ golf tournament takes place at Bay Forest Golf Course, with the top qualifiers bound for the regional tournament early next month.
The Rockets continue to wind down their regular season when they visit the Mavericks at 7:30pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts coverage with the pregame show at 7:00pm.
Thursday: Abilene is the site for the annual boys’ powerlifting state finals. The area has traditionally had its share of winners, and this year is set to be no exception.
Hitchcock’s track team is in action when the Bulldogs compete at the Sweeny relays.
The University of Houston men’s basketball team will look to advance into the Elite Eight when the Cougars collide with Arizona in a West Regional semifinal at AT&T Center in San Antonio. A win for the Coogs would place them in Saturday’s regional title game against the winners of Villanova and Michigan. UH hits the court at 8:59pm, with TBS providing the live coverage.
Friday: High school softball begins at 5:00pm with Hitchcock at Hempstead, followed by Clear Falls at Clear Creek, Clear Springs at Dickinson, Friendswood at Santa Fe, Goose Creek Memorial at Galveston Ball and La Porte at Texas City each starting at 6:30pm.
The high school baseball slate has Clear Creek at Clear Springs, Clear Falls at Clear Lake, Manvel at Friendswood, La Marque at Brazosport, Santa Fe at Goose Creek Memorial and Texas City at Galveston Ball each starting at 6:00pm, with Clear Brook at Brazoswood wrapping up the schedule at 7:00pm.
A very busy track and field schedule is highlighted by a number of schools (Clear Brook, Clear Springs, Dickinson, Santa Fe) sending qualifiers to take part in the Texas Relays on the campus of the University of Texas. For those who won’t be Austin-bound, Clear Brook, Clear Creek and Clear Falls will compete at the Chargers Relays at Clear Springs High School, while Dickinson is at the Memorial Titan Relays at Port Arthur. Friendswood is at the Rockhold Relays at Baytown Lee High School, with the Texas City boys at the Pasadena ISD Invitational and the Texas City girls taking part at the Purnell Relays in Angleton.
The tennis schedule is just as busy, with Clear Brook, Clear Creek, Clear Falls and Clear Springs among the schools taking part the Kemah Invitational, while Dickinson and Texas City are among those competing at the Beachcomber Invitational, which will be held at both Dobie High School, the Texas City High School tennis courts and the Nessler Center tennis courts.
In water polo, Lamar at Clear Brook starts with the girls at 5:00pm, followed by the boys at 6:00pm. Angleton at Clear Springs gets going at 5:30pm with the girls, and the boys going at 6:30pm.
The Rockets head off to Portland for back to back games against the Trail Blazers. AT&T Sportsnet starts the pregame show at 8:30pm, with the game starting at 9:00pm.
Saturday: The high school baseball schedule has Goose Creek Memorial at Texas City at 1:00pm.
La Marque’s softball team takes part at the Katy Tournament, with games scheduled for 1:30pm and 4:30pm.
Water polo is also on the slate, with Galveston Ball at Clear Falls starting at 9:00am with the girls, followed by the boys at 10:00am. Clear Creek visits Texas City at 5:00pm, with the boys following the girls at 6:00pm.
Similar to Friday, the Rockets meet the Trail Blazers at 9:00pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts the pregame at 8:30pm, with the game starting at 9:00pm.
