MONDAY offers something for everyone in the local sports world, with

baseball, football and soccer taking the forefront. The start of the week

also presents a chance to see a potential future baseball Hall of Famer

move closer to a milestone moment.

SUNDAY: Father’s Day will see Lance McCullers Jr. (8-3, 3.83 ERA) get

the starting nod for the Astros in the finale of a weekend set at the Royals,

who will counter with rookie Brad Keller (1-2, 2.31 ERA). Gametime

starts at 1:15pm with AT&T Sportsnet Southwest’s coverage starting at

12:30pm.

MONDAY: There is still time to register for the two-day Texas City Stings

Baseball Camp. The camp, which is for incoming sixth thru ninth grade

players, will be held at Robinson Stadium from 9:00am to 12:00pm. Cost

for the basics camp is $60 and $70 for players attending the pitcher/

catcher only camp on Wednesday from 10:00am to 12:00pm. The cost for

the catcher/pitcher session will be $30. Campers will need bats, gloves,

fielding gloves and tennis shoes for the 13 and 14-year-olds attending.

A registration form can be found on the TCISD Athletics website. For

more information, call 409-916-0147 or coach Acosta at 281-660-9756.

The day will have another late afternoon of 7 on 7 football at Stingaree

Stadium in Texas City. Hitchcock, La Marque and Santa Fe will be part

of the second Monday of high school players tuning up for the upcoming

season. Attendance is free.

Returning to Minute Maid Park after a cross country road trip, the Astros

welcome the Rays beginning at 7:10pm. Gerrit Cole (7-1, 2.16 ERA) takes

the mound for Houston while Tampa Bay remains undecided on who gets

the start. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will begin its coverage beginning

with the pregame show at 6:30pm.

Right up the street from Minute Maid Park, the Dynamo will meet Minnesota

United in a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open round of 16 match beginning

at 7:30pm. The Dynamo will look to get one step closer to at least equaling

their semifinal appearances in 2006 and 2009. Fans can go to the

Dynamo website to purchase tickets for the match at BBVA Compass

Stadium.

TUESDAY: Four wins away from 200 career wins, Justin Verlander (8-2,

1.45 ERA) starts for the Astros as they take on the Rays beginning at

7:10pm. Blake Snell (8-3, 2.30 ERA) is scheduled to start for Tampa Bay

in the middle game of the series. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will start its

coverage at 6:30pm, leading in to the first pitch.
