JUST AS THE high school football pushes toward a conclusion of its regular season,
the girls basketball regular season tips off on Friday. As usual, the weekend is filled
with college football along with the first two games of a lengthy road trip for a Rockets
team that has looked like anything but a NBA Finals contender in the first two weeks
of the regular season.
WEDNESDAY: Not much on the sports schedule. It is Halloween, so if you’re in the
costume-wearing mood, dress up as your favorite athlete and win the day either at
work or the party later in the day.
THURSDAY: The day is highlighted by subvarsity high school football games throughout
the area. Take the time to watch the future Friday night heroes take continue their
steps toward a destiny of big plays and memories that will become legendary.
FRIDAY: Week 10 of the high school football regular season begins with Clear Brook
at Alvin, Clear Falls at Clear Creek, Clear Springs at Clear Lake, Santa Fe at Dayton,
Texas City at Richmond Foster, Rosenberg Terry at Friendswood, Angleton at
Galveston Ball and La Marque at Wharton beginning at 7:00pm. Boling at Hitchcock
kicks off at 7:30pm.
Opening night of the high school girls’ basketball season will see Clear Creek at Deer
Park beginning at 4:00pm, followed by CE King at La Marque at 6:00pm and Crosby
at Clear Brook at 6:30pm. Ridge Point at state-ranked Clear Springs, Clear Falls at
Cinco Ranch, Dickinson at Katy and Baytown Sterling at Santa Fe are each 7:00pm
starts.
The Rockets open a five-game road trip when they visit the Nets at 6:30pm. Injuries
and defensive struggles have conspired to put Houston into a 1-4 hole entering the
week as they hit a stretch of six of their next seven games away from Toyota Center.
AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will start its coverage beginning with the pregame show
at 6:00pm.
SATURDAY: Hitchcock, which finished state-ranked in Class 3A, will start their girls’
basketball season when they host Houston Wheatley at 1:00pm.
The college football schedule begins with Texas Southern at Alabama State, Nicholls
at Houston Baptist, Sam Houston State at Incarnate Word and Prairie View at Jackson
State each kicking off at 2:00pm. Rice hosts Texas-El Paso at 2:30pm. Lamar at
Central Arkansas and nationally-ranked Houston at Southern Methodist both start at
6:00pm.
The Windy City welcomes the Rockets when they take on a young and rising Bulls
squad beginning at 7:00pm. Despite a 2-4 record at the start of the week, Chicago’s
core group of Zach LaVine and rookie Wendell Carter Jr. will look to give Houston a
run for its money, but will have to wait until AT&T Sportsnet Southwest completes its
pregame show at 6:30pm.
