FIRST-YEAR coach Shone Evans saw a host of his La Marque Cougars represented
on the District 11-4A-2 postseason teams as the team reached the playoffs
for a ninth straight year.
Senior running back Perry Preston was named to the first team offense, concluding
a career that saw him make an all-district team in each of his four years with
the Cougars. Joining Preston on the first team offense were junior lineman Kenneth
Cobb and sophomore receiver Jauron Reid Jr., who averaged 29 yards per catch
and caught five of the team’s seven touchdown passes on the season.
On defense, senior end Dunte Henderson, junior tackle Sterling Mack, junior
linebacker JaTavious Adams, senior linebacker Malik Holmes, and junior defensive
backs Ike Owens and Kristian Franklin received first team nods for the Cougars.
Representing La Marque on the second team offense were senior quarterback
Kobe Gatson, senior running back Norvan Saldana, senior offensive lineman Darius
Saldana and junior offensive lineman C.J. Yancy
Second team defense honors were bestowed upon junior linemen Gene Gee and
J’Vonte Dozier, senior linebacker Jeremiah Taylor and junior defensive back Micah
Hanlon
