Mustangs, Tors dominate 22-5A girls’ hoops honors
BOTH FRIENDSWOOD AND Galveston Ball were well-represented in the District 22-5A girls’ basketball team, which came out this week.
Tors junior Bebe Galloway was named the district’s most valuable player after helping Ball finish with a 19-11 overall record and 12-2 district mark that tied them with both Friendswood and Goose Creek Memorial atop the 22-5A standings. Teammate Ariana Smith captured offensive player of the year honors as the senior point guard ranked among the district’s leaders in both scoring and assists.
Mustangs sophomore Ashlyn Mason was selected as the defensive player of the year while teammate and fellow sophomore Ashlyn Ryall received the award for the district’s top newcomer.
The quartet of players were joined on the 22-5A first team by Caitlyn Garza and Katy Lackey of Santa Fe and Tahjea Smith of Texas City.
Making the second team were Kinsey Cole of Friendswood, Galveston Ball’s Alexis LaForte, Brenlee Butler of Santa Fe and Kelsey Lattimore of Texas City.
Goose Creek Memorial’s Darcie Moore was selected as the district’s coach of the year.
