THE CHRISTMAS BREAK MEANS little on the sports schedule. However, Cowboys fans will try to get their Christmas shopping done early on Sunday to sit down in time for a winner-take-all clash for the NFC East title. The Rockets play on Monday; beyond that, the slate is pretty quiet.
Sunday: The biggest clash in recent memory between 7-7 teams goes down when the Cowboys visit the Eagles for what will essentially decide the NFC East Division title. Dallas cruised to a 37-10 win over Philadelphia on October 20, marking their fourth straight win over their longtime rival. The Eagles have not had much success against the Cowboys in recent years, having lost seven of their last ten. Originally scheduled for 12:00pm, the NFL moved the game time to 3:25pm, which is when Fox 26 will begin its coverage.
Monday: The only sporting event with local impact comes at 9:00pm when the Rockets continue their swing out west against an improved Kings team that has found its health with the recent return of young franchise cornerstones Marvin Bagley and Houston-area native De’Aaron Fox. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will have coverage beginning at 8:30pm with the pregame show.
Tuesday: It’s Christmas Eve, which means a day off from sports across the board. That means making a last-ditch run to get Christmas gifts, visiting family, sleeping in or whatever will make your day. If going to church helps get you in the spirit of Christmas, the area will be filled with Christmas Eve services.
Most of all, remember the reason for the season. Everything else is secondary and meaningless without understanding why most of us will be digging into turkey, ham, etc. for the second time in less than a month.
