Galveston Art League has closed its gallery in accordance with public-health mandates, but artwork on display in the downtown Galveston gallery is exhibited virtually and up for sale on GalvestonArtLeague.com.
This virtual gallery tour wasn’t originally designed for sales, so information about the art is a bit sketchy—pun intended. So anyone interested shouldn’t be shy: The Art League is happy to answer questions about size, medium, and how to make your purchase at 409-938-1671 and gallery2117@gmail.com. All of the 2-D art is framed and ready to hang.
In the future, Galveston Art League may present additional virtual art exhibits and sales with a new array of artwork. If that occurs, it will be announced here and on the league’s website.
The 106-year-old Art League has always been a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization established in support of visual arts in Galveston County and beyond. In accomplishing that mission, the league offers modestly priced and free workshops, publicizes local artists, hosts judged competitions, and switches out its exhibits monthly. The gallery, 2117A Postoffice St., stays open late for ArtWalks, welcoming hundreds of visitors at each.
Galveston Art League relies on income from sales commissions, its fall gala and membership fees to finance its gallery and support regional artists and art education. The league’s membership includes both artists and non-artists.
To find out about membership levels and how to join, please visit GalvestonArtLeague.com and click on the “Join” tab.
Membership benefits include invitations to preview parties each month, reduced entry fees for the three judged competitions that the Galveston Art League schedules annually, and a quarterly newsletter with news about local art opportunities, member accomplishments, and league events.
