Juneteenth weekend filled with host of celebrations (social distancing included)

SOCIAL DISTANCING and other realities of the Coronavirus age will be present, but it will not impede upon what will be a busy weekend of events surrounding the annual celebration of Juneteenth.

The city of La Marque will host its Juneteenth celebration on Saturday, June 20 at the Juneteenth Vendor Mall, located at 1202 1st Street in La Marque. The event will be held from 3:00pm to 6:00pm, with special guest speaker Samuel Collins III providing a historic presentation entitled “What is Juneteenth” beginning at 3:30pm. There will also be a presentation of scholarships along with a memorial tribute. Seating will be modified to help reduce the risk of covid-19.

Greater St. Matthews Baptist Church will sponsor a Galveston County United Rally at Jack Brooks Park in Hitchcock on Saturday from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Everyone is invited to show their support for Galveston County and are also encouraged to represent their high school. The rally is intended to show that the county has remained strong despite the political and social unrest that has impacted the nation over the past several weeks.
