Consider this weekend as a moment to make up for lost time. At this time a year ago, America was caught in the viselock grip of the pandemic, leaving the nation limited in how to properly celebrate Independence Day.
Parade routes were silent. Patriotic music was unable to perform in pride, and while there were the usual fireworks shows, it was mostly spur of the moment instead of the extravagant sounds that defined a city’s efforts on July 4.
Masking and social distancing maintain its noticeable presence, yet this year will be an opportunity to find an event and reflect on the freedom that has been hard-fought by men and women from the streets of Boston to the desert and mountains of Afghanistan.
This page is filled with Independence Day events throughout Galveston County. Enjoy your holiday, yet remember the reason and sacrifice that made it possible.
