Play ball! The Astros begin their 2022 season, while area high school
baseball and softball teams hit the home stretch of their respective regular
seasons. There’s also track and field to follow, as District 22-5A will see its
best compete for spots in the regional meet later this month.
WEDNESDAY: The road to the state track and field finals take shape for District
22-5A athletes as they compete in the prelims of the tourney at Goose Creek
Memorial High School. Finals will be held on Thursday.
THURSDAY: A pair of water polo tournaments will see a number of area high
school teams taking part. Clear Brook will be at the Purple Monkey Tournament
in Pearland, while Clear Creek, Clear Falls and Clear Springs will be among the
teams participating in the Ben Garcia Memorial Tournament in Houston.
Opening Day of the 2022 Major League Baseball season gets underway as the
defending American League champion Astros visit the Angels. AT&T Sportsnet
Southwest will have coverage beginning at 7:30pm with the pregame show, leading into the 8:38pm start time.
FRIDAY: High school softball begins its regular season stretch run starting with
Brazos at Hitchcock at 5:00pm, followed by Columbia at La Marque at 5:30pm.
Clear Creek at Clear Brook, Clear Springs at Clear Falls, La Porte at Friendswood, Galveston Ball at Manvel and Texas City at Baytown Sterling each start
at 6:30pm. Dickinson at Brazoswood wraps up the schedule at 6:45pm.
Meanwhile, the high school baseball schedule has Clear Lake at Clear Brook,
Brazoswood at Clear Creek, Dickinson at Clear Falls, Clear Springs at Barbers
Hill, Goose Creek Memorial at Friendswood, Baytown Lee at Galveston Ball, La
Marque at Bay City, Santa Fe at Baytown Sterling and Texas City at Manvel each
starting at 6:00pm.
The Rockets play their road game of the 2021-22 season when they visit the
Raptors at 6:30pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts coverage with the pregame show at 6:00pm.
The Astros continue their series at the Angels beginning at 8:38pm. The game
can be seen as part of the Apple+ MLB package (it’s free, folks).
SATURDAY: Two high school baseball games on the schedule will have Friendswood at La Porte and Manvel at Galveston Ball. Both games start at 1:00pm.
The Dynamo welcome the Earthquake for a 7:30pm match. AT&T will have the
match live, albeit with territorial restrictions.
It’s an earlier start for the Astros and Angels, who start at 8:07pm. Those who
aren’t watching the Dynamo will get the AT&T Sportsnet Southwest coverage
starting at 7:30pm with the pregame show.
