

The annual CCA Texas STAR Fishing Tournament officially began on Saturday as anglers bid to capture part of the prize package that includes a 2022 Ford F150 “Texas Edition” XLT Super Cab connected to a Haynie 23 Bigfoot with a Mercury 150 L Pro XS Optimax and Coastline Trailer that goes to the first five adults who catch a red-tagged redfish that is tag clipped with the fish also being released and the tag turned in at one of the 14 CCA Texas STAR weigh stations.
The total cost of the elite package is estimated at around $65,000 to $70,000.
For the next five who make the catch of a red-tagged redfish, the prize awaiting them will be a Haynie 23 Bigfoot with a Mercury 150 L Pro XS Optimax and Coastline Trailer.
In the blue-tagged redfish division, the first three winners will receive a 2021 Mowdy 22’V Boat, a 150HP Mercury Motor and Coastline Trailer. Fourth and fifth winners will receive a $2,000 Academy Sports + Outdoors Gift Card, while those from sixth to tenth will receive a $750 Academy Sports + Outdoors Gift Card.
As always, CCA Texas STAR will hand out scholarships to those in the youth divisions. This year’s youth divisions are the Gafftop (ages 6-10), Sheepshead (ages 6-10), Teens Gafftop (ages 11-17) and Teens Sheepshead (ages 11-17). Those who catch the heaviest fish in each division will receive a $30,000 scholarship.
