MARGARET’S HEART

  •

I sailed into our noon Bible study in a rush from a previous appointment with my mind preoccupied with job duties (meetings, deadlines, obligations). Thoughts crowded in like “I need to do our taxes, monthly bills, what to cook for supper/grocery list. We also have upcoming birthday celebrations and baby gifts to buy,” and not to mention gas station TV reminders about worldly events/disasters, and the constant texting of shoe sales going on and 40 percent off coupons good for only one day and then …

…there was Margaret, who sat quietly at the long table as the room was abuzz with greetings and hugs, 2-minute updates on family/current events. Suddenly a soft but firm voice broke into our “busy” discussions. “I want to sing you a song that the Lord gave to me,” Margaret stated as a matter of fact.

  • We all stopped and stared at her for a brief moment. Now, I don’t know much about Margaret as she is new to our group, but she seemed kind of shy, as could be expected with our diverse group of mostly boisterous personalities.
  • Our Bible teacher spoke up and said that would be great. “We’d love to hear it after everyone arrives and the opening prayer,” he said. We nodded our heads in quick agreement and went straight back into conversations and settling in our places.
  • It had only been a few moments, but I had already forgotten about Margaret’s song until our Bible teacher addressed her and asked her to begin.
  • Without hesitation Margaret began to sing His song in a clear, sweet voice.
  • “Blessed
  • Have a blessed morning …
  • Have a great day
  • May the joy of our Lord guide your way.
  •
  • “Give your cares to Him …
  • Invite the Holy Spirit in
  • He will keep you safe – at work or play.
  •
  • “Praise Jesus now …
  • Make Him first in all you do
  • He has the way prepared for you.
  •
  • “Expect great blessings …
  • As you do your Father’s will
  • Reach out to someone else today and say:
  •
  • “Good morning, Jesus loves you …
  • Have a very, very Blessed day!”

As she sang, tears welled up in my eyes at the simplicity of the words spoken from her heart, like a childlike faith flowing from a child of God. But while she sang I pictured our Heavenly Father watching Margaret with much anticipation from beginning to now, as we filed into the room all abuzz.  And my own mind overcomes with the cares of this world.

  • You know, I believe our “Dad” was looking at her heart, smiling and saying, “Hang on Margaret, you’ll get to sing ‘My’ song soon.”
  • How excited do we get when our children are about to recite a poem or act or sing or just do silly things? Where do you think we get this reaction from? God our Father.
  • God loves all His children (born-again believers) the same, but not all of His children are keeping their minds and hearts tender and sensitive to Him.
  • I am neither condemning nor down on myself when I say this, but at that moment, I realized just how far away my thoughts were from God. We can do things in this life while keeping our minds on Christ.
  • I belong to God, spirit, soul and body, and He promises the same to me. Forever! I constantly have His undivided attention.
  • I believe that God was smiling as Margaret sang that song to us and for Him, but I know that God smiles on us and …  sings to us.
  • “The Lord bless you and keep you;
  •  The Lord make His face shine upon you,
  • And be gracious to you;
  • The Lord lift up His countenance upon you,
  • And give you peace.”’
  • Numbers 6:24-26
  •
  • “The Lord your God in your midst,
  • The Mighty One, will save;
  • He will rejoice over you with gladness,
  • He will quiet you with His love,
  • He will rejoice over you with singing.”
  • Zephaniah 3:17
  •
  • He will keep in perfect peace all those who trust in Him, whose minds are stayed upon the Lord.” Isaiah 26:3
