GALVESTON, Texas (Jan. 20, 2025) – The Rotary Club of Galveston Island and its
Foundation awarded a $5,000 Spotlight Grant to the Galveston Island Meals on Wheels
on Jan. 13, 2026, during the Rotary Club’s weekly Tuesday meeting at The San Luis
Resort in Galveston.
“Galveston Island Meals on Wheels does far more than deliver meals, they deliver
dignity, compassion and a vital connection to our most vulnerable neighbors,” said Dan
Hinson, president of the Rotary Club of Galveston Island. “This $5,000 Spotlight Grant
reflects Rotary’s commitment to strengthening our community and supporting
organizations that ensure no one is left behind, especially our seniors and residents
who depend on these essential services.”
Galveston Island Meals on Wheels is a non-governmental, community-funded, interfaith
outreach ministry that reduces food insecurity and social isolation by delivering
nutritious meals to Galveston Island residents who are homebound and can’t prepare
their own meals due to illness, disability or age, according to the organization.
“We’re grateful to the Rotary Club of Galveston Island for their generous donation,” said
Kelly Cruz, executive director of Galveston Island Meals on Wheels. “Their donation
provides over 800 meals for our homebound residents in need. It not only provides a hot
meal, but it also provides a daily visit from a caring volunteer.”
