Texas City ISD is very proud of Guajardo Elementary

for receiving 5 out of 5 distinctions from the Texas

Education Agency . Out of all the schools across the

state, Guajardo was one of 400 schools to receive

this honor and one of 4 schools in Galveston County.

Heights Elementary, Kohfeldt Elementary and

Blocker Middle School also each earned a TEA distinction.

“Earning one or several campus-level distinctions

is notable and should be applauded by a community

as an outstanding achievement,” said Commissioner

of Education Mike Morath. “For a school to earn every

potential distinction applicable to their campus is

difficult, but a reflection of some truly amazing work

by our educators.”

Besides our continued focus in all areas of education,

Curriculum & Instruction major initiatives for the

2018-19 school year include:

All schools are participating in Safe & Civil Schools

Foundation to design and implement a proactive and

positive school-wide discipline plan unique to their

campus. It comprises discipline policies and procedures,

school climate and culture, school safety,

student-staff interactions, student motivation and

academic engagement.

We are implementing new programs for social and

emotional based learning in Kindergarten through

12th grade. Social and emotional learning is a process

which helps children cultivate essential life skills

including awareness of one’s own emotions, fostering

respect and care for others, establishing strong relationships,

making ethical and responsible

decisions, and handling

adversity constructively.

This past summer we held a

writing academy for 4th grade,

7th grade and high school English

teachers.

We are implementing a new Pho nics

program for grades K-2.

Marathon Oil is donating $67,963

to install a SmartLab to support

our STEM program at La Marque

Middle School. LMHS students will

also get to use it while they are still

in the same location.

Guajardo Elementary received an

“A” Rating from TEA, and earned

distinctions in all possible categories:

Academic Achievement in English Language

Arts/Reading; Academic Achievement in Mathematics;

Top 25 Percent: Comparative Academic Growth;

Top 25 Percent: Comparative Closing the Gaps; and

Post-secondary Readiness. Guajardo was one of

400 schools statewide to earn all distinctions.
