The day began with a Fun Run from Carlos Garza Park all the way to 6th Street and was followed soon after by mile after mile of Mardi Gras Floats from which thousands of beads and candies of all sorts were being thrown at the crowds that gathered from  33rd Street and Carlos Garza Park all the way to the Showboat on 6th Street.
But that wasn’t all. After a little time to rest and recuperate from the day’s activities, people dressed in Roaring 20’s garb began arriving at the Doyle Convention Center for an evening of dining dancing and bidding on everything from  a vacation to Cabo to a Mink Coat. Steak and Shrimp, a Wine Grab and a sensational band Radio Live that had everyone on their feet, all came together to make it a memorable evening and the biggest fundraising event of the year.
This whole day – the fun Run, the Parade and the Roaring 20’s Gala were all events coordinated and put on by Texas City Rotary. Aside from providing an eventful day, the proceeds from all the participants is used throughout the year, supplying students with much needed scholarships, sending students to Leadership Camp and contributing to the many causes that Rotary International supports.
So many individuals come together to offer their time, their money, their creativity to make these events come together, it is genuinely a tribute to the spirit of our city that year after year, the parade gets longer and the Gala more extravagant. But then, that just seems to be how Texas city rolls!
