THE ASTROS CONTINUE their home stand with a weekend visit from one of the game’s best young prospects. There could also be some basketball on the slate, a question that will be answered late Monday night.
Wednesday: The Astros get the national spotlight when they close out a brief two-game set against the Brewers beginning at 7:00pm on ESPN. Justin Verlander (9-2, 2.31 ERA) looks for his tenth win of the 2019 campaign, while Milwaukee counters with Brandon Woodruff, who comes into the contest with an 8-1 record and 3.87 ERA. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will also have coverage starting with the pregame show at 6:30pm. The network will also have a special edition of its Bases Loaded show when it looks back at the 1986 Astros team that won the National League West and played in a memorable National League Championship Series against the Mets. The show will air at 5:30pm.
Thursday: With the Astros taking the day off, it will be a quiet day in sports. However, there could be a Game 6 of the NBA Finals provided that the Warriors defeated the Raptors on Monday night to push the series back to Oakland. Golden State trailed Toronto 3-1 entering Monday’s Game 5. If there is hoops to be played, ABC-13 will have coverage beginning at 8:00pm.
Friday: Astros fans will get the chance to see two of the best young talents in the game square off as the Blue Jays come in for the first of a three-game set beginning at 7:10pm. Gerrit Cole (5-5, 3.72 ERA) takes the mound for the Astros against Aaron Sanchez (3-7, 4.25 ERA). The weekend series will provide fans their first look at Toronto third baseman Vladimir Guerrero,
Jr., who is regarded as the best prospect in the majors along with another opportunity to see Houston designated hitter Yordan Alvarez, who homered in his major league debut on Sunday. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will have the game live beginning with the pregame show at 6:30pm.
Saturday: Lefty Framber Valdez (2-2, 2.73 ERA) gets the starting nod for the Astros in the middle game of their weekend series against the Blue Jays beginning at 3:10pm. Toronto will turn to veteran lefty Clayton Richard (0-2, 7.04 ERA). AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will have the game live, starting with its pregame show at 2:30pm.
