
THERE IS STILL PLENTY on the schedule during Spring Break, highlighted by a host of high school baseball tournaments across the area. Track and field fans will also have their share of events to follow.
However, the threat of Coronavirus could eventually have an impact on the area’s high school sports schedule. Although there is no immediate threat in the area, each school administration is keeping its eye on events to assure the safety of both the athletes and fans.
Wednesday: The day’s only event will have Clear Falls hosting the Knights Relay. Clear Springs and Texas City will be among the track and field teams competing.
Thursday: Tourney time dominates the high school baseball scene, with Clear Brook, Clear Springs and Galveston Ball among the teams competing at the Alvin Varsity Tournament. Clear Creek and Dickinson are at the Crosby Tournament, while Clear Falls is at the Baytown Sterling Tournament. Friendswood will have homefield advantage as the Mustangs play host to a tournament. Hitchcock takes part in the Panther Prowl Tournament, while Santa Fe competes at the Battle of Bay Goose Creek Tournament. Texas City heads up Highway 6 to take part in the Fort Bend Tournament.
The Rockets visit Los Angeles for a high-profile showdown against the Lakers beginning at 9:30pm. TNT will air the game nationally, so it will be a night off for AT&T Sportsnet Southwest. The Lakers won the first meeting with a 124-115 decision on January 18 before the Rockets evened matters with a 121-111 win in LA on February 6. This will be the final regular season matchup between the two Western Conference title contenders.
Friday: The regional powerlifting tournament will be at West Hardin High School, where area strongmen will look to advance to Abilene for the state championships later this month.
There is one baseball game on the schedule as Ganado visits La Marque for a 6:00pm contest.
In track and field, Santa Fe will be among the teams taking part at the Panther Relays, which will be held at C.E. King High School.
Saturday: Clear Springs’ track and field team will be at the Texas Distance Festival, which takes place at Southlake Carroll High School. The event includes the 800, 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs along with an Elite 5K Division.
The red-hot Roughnecks look to remain the XFL’s only undefeated team when they travel to New York for a 1:00pm contest against the Guardians. The game can be seen live on ABC 13.
The Dynamo return to BBVA Stadium when they welcome the Seattle Sounders for a 7:30pm match. KUBE 57 will air the match live.
