WITH RESTRICTIONS STILL limiting Texans from group activities during the Coronavirus, local high schools spent the end of the last week looking to give conclusion for the Class of 2020, which continues the remainder of their final semester partaking in virtual classes rather than enjoying their biggest moment to date.
After careful consideration, Texas City ISD announced that it changed its graduation ceremonies for La Marque (June 5) and Texas City (June 6) to a double-header that will be held at Moody Gardens in Galveston on June 27. La Marque will commence its ceremony at 11:00am and Texas City will graduate its class at 3:00pm.
TCISD interim superintendent Susan Myers said that both high schools are rescheduling their respective proms along with virtual events for senior awards and scholarships. “We’ve got a few other ideas for special events, so please be patient with us as we work on final details,” Myers said.
The district is also working on a process that will allow TCISD students to pick up personal belongings and turning in technology.
Santa Fe will also use Moody Gardens as its destination for the Class of 2020, which will be honored at the Moody Gardens Hotel Expo Hall on July 20 at 7:00pm. The Indians will have a virtual graduation ceremony on June 5 starting at 7:30pm to confer the Santa Fe Class of 2020 graduates.
“You all deserve the very best and we hope these ceremonies will reflect the strength, endurance, resilience and courage that you have demonstrated as the Santa Fe High School Senior Class of 2020,” said SFISD superintendent of schools Leigh Wall, EdD. “We are so proud of each of you and we wish you great success in your future endeavors!”
Dickinson will host its Class of 2020 a final farewell on July 18 at Fertitta Center on the University of Houston Main Campus beginning at 2:00pm. DISD is currently working on plans to honor its graduating class along with a ceremony to honor the boys’ high school basketball team, whose trip to the Class 6A semifinals was taken away when the UIL announced that all spring sports would be cancelled.
