Any artist 15 and older is eligible to enter up to three works in the Galveston Art League’s 2020 Fall Juried Show. Entry fees are $30 for each of the first two pieces and $10 for the third. Fees are discounted by 50 percent – a $35 savings – for Art League members; find out how to join for as little as $40 a year at www.GalvestonArtLeague.com.

Entries should be brought to the Galveston Art League Gallery, 2117A Postoffice St. in downtown Galveston, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 31. If that isn’t possible, you may call 409-682-3515 to arrange an appointment-only drop-off on Sunday, Aug. 30.

The entry categories are photography, works on paper, works on canvas and board, mixed-media wall-hung (collages and fiber art, for instance), and 3-D (sculpture, pottery, art glass, wood carvings, art dolls, jewelry, etc.). No works may be larger than 4 by 5 feet; other rules and restrictions are listed in the Prospectus/Call to Artists document link on the left side of the www.GalvestonArtLeague.com homepage.

Monetary prizes, ribbons, and certificates are given for Best of Show ($300) and first ($100) and second places ($50) in categories with six or more entries. Honorable-mention ribbons and certificates are also awarded. As part of the league’s September competition each year, an artist receives the $750 McGivney Award for a work that captures an iconic aspect of Galveston or its history, and this piece is purchased by the Rosenberg Library to become part of its collection.

In addition to selecting award winners, the contest judge will determine which artworks are admitted into the show and which ones don’t make the cut (artists are notified by phone only if one or more pieces are rejected and those pieces will need to be picked up between noon and 6 p.m. on Sept. 5 and 6).
