Instructor Lisette McClung will teach an art workshop, Color Harmony with Mixed Media, on Saturday, September 11, in downtown Galveston. Participants, who should have experience with acrylic paints, will create a mixed media painting using handmade Gelli printed paper and acrylic paint. The workshop will be 9:00am to 12:00pm and 1:00pm to 3pm at the Galveston Art League Gallery, 2117A Postoffice St.; an optional critique session will follow from 3:00pm to 4:00pm
Each student will explore patterns utilizing the Gelli printing process to make their own collage paper. Then they will incorporate that paper into a painting. Working with basic color theory, McClung will demonstrate how to use a color scheme to design a unified artwork onto an 8-by-8-inch gallery-wrapped 1½-inch canvas.
Registration and payment for the workshop are available at www.GalvestonArtLeague.com. The workshop fee is $75, and there is an additional $20 supplies fee. The supplies fee covers the 8-by-8-inch canvas, 5-by-5-inch Gelli printing plate, acid-free tissue paper, printing plate tool, and stencil foam spouncer (sponge brush). Students will have enough leftover supplies to make additional mixed media paintings on their own.
McClung will provide stencils, stamps, brayers, gel medium, glazing medium, slow-dry medium, and containers for students to use during the workshop. Students should bring their favorite acrylic paint, brushes, palette paper, additional stencils, and photographs for inspiration. If you have questions about the workshop, please email nghouse1@verizon.net.
