GARDEN WITH THE MASTERS OPEN GARDEN DAY: LOUISIANA IRISES

The Galveston County Master Gardeners’ Discovery Garden will be open to the public for tours Saturday, April 2 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon!  Iris enthusiast and Galveston County Master Gardener Monica Martens, Ed.D., will be on-site to chat with you and answer any questions you may have about irises.  ***NOTE LOCATION – Master Gardener Discovery Garden in Carbide Park, 4102 Main St (FM 519), La Marque, 77568***

GRAFTING PECANS

9:00 – 12:00 p.m.

Explore the art and science of grafting pecan trees for home orchard improvement. Galveston County AgriLife Extension Horticulturist Stephen Brueggerhoff will present pecan biology and discuss rootstock and scion varieties for the Texas Gulf Coast. We will host a grafting demonstration using four-flap and bark inlay methods. ***Note: Registration is limited to 15 people***

LOOKING DOWN AT INSECTS

Looking down at insects, the pros, cons, and habitat. Galveston County Master Gardener & Entomologist Specialist Hedy Wolpa will present information and photos of beneficial and pest insects common to our gardens and landscaped yards. She’ll also talk about attracting beneficial insects by supporting their native habitats and life cycles.

Galveston County Master Gardeners Briana Etie and Karen Nelson will demonstrate herb preservations and preparations to enhance your senses and inspire your kitchen skills. We will have preparations to taste, herbs and a preservation project to take home. ***NOTE:  Cost is $10 per person, fee will be collected at the event and covers cost materials.
