THE THANKSGIVING holiday weekend delivers a host of sports from high school

football playoffs along with a healthy dose of basketball across the board. College

football is on the docket, but, as usual, the Cowboys will take center stage

on Thanksgiving Day.

WEDNESDAY: The day before Thanksgiving brings boys’ and girls’ basketball.

On the boys’ slate, Dickinson meets Spring Woods as part of RCSSports.

com’s annual Hoopsgiving Classic, which will be held at Houston Christian

High School. The clash between state-ranked teams tips off at 12:30pm. Stateranked

La Marque travels to Crosby and Clear Brook is at South Houston, with

each game starting at 1:00pm. La Porte is at Texas City beginning at 2:00pm.

The afternoon’s sole girls’ hoops contest will see Dickinson at Aldine starting at

1:00pm.

Rockets fans will be in a festive mood as they host the Pistons for a 7:00pm tip.

Houston enters the week at 8-7 overall and will bring a four-game winning streak

into the contest against Detroit, who will be making their only regular season

appearance this season to Toyota Center. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will have

the coverage beginning with the pregame show at 6:30pm.

THURSDAY: It’s going to feel like old times for Cowboys fans, whose team hosts

the Redskins in a game that could give Dallas a share of first place in the NFC

East. The Cowboys, who have played on Thanksgiving every year since 1966,

lost the first meeting between the two teams this season when Washington held

on for a 20-17 home win on October 21. This will be the 51st time the Cowboys

have played on Turkey Day, where they sport a record of 30-19-1. Fox26 will

have the kickoff shortly after 3:30pm.

FRIDAY: It’s a Gator Nation Friday as Dickinson (10-1), the area’s sole high

school football team to advance to the second round of play, will have a tough

task against a state-ranked North Shore team (11-0) that has eliminated them

from the postseason in two of the last three years. Dickinson earned its trip to

the 6A, Region III, Division I area round contest with a 49-21 win over Pearland

on Friday, giving the Gators their fourth season of at least 10 wins in the past

five years. The game will be played at Galena Park ISD Stadium and will kick

off at 1:00pm.

Houston could clinch the American Athletic Conference West Division with a

win at Memphis beginning at 11:00. The Cougars (8-3) will be without explosive

quarterback D’Eriq King, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in last

week’s win over Tulane, leaving UH to turn to freshman Clayton Tune when

ABC13 begins its coverage.

After playing the role of hosts, the Rockets will be the guests of the Pistons as

Houston opens a three-game road swing beginning at 6:00pm. AT&T Sportsnet

Southwest will have the pregame show starting at 5:30pm.

SATURDAY: Longtime rivals Deer Park and Clear Creek will resume their boys’

basketball saga when the Deer roam into Wildcats territory at 3:00pm. Dickinson’s

boys’ basketball team takes on Dekaney as part of the two-day Texas

Jamboree, which will be held at Bellaire High School beginning at 4:00pm.

The Rockets make their way to Cleveland to meet a struggling Cavaliers team

that came into the week with the worst record in the NBA at 2-12 overall. Tipoff

begins at 6:30pm with AT&T Sportsnet Southwest launching the pregame show

at 6:00pm.

On the college football schedule, Old Domininon is at Rice starting at 12:00pm,

followed by Texas Southern at Prairie View at 1:00pm. Lamar at Northern Iowa

will begin at 4:00pm.
