Frank Torre played first base for the World Champion 1957 Milwaukee Braves and won a World Series ring 39 years before his more famous brother Joe Torre did with the New York Yankees. In All Heart, Frank tells Neil his story in his own words, starting with the family upbringing in Brooklyn, New York, through to his heart transplant on the eve of his brother Joe piloting the Yankees to a championship. In between, Frank recounts the story of the great Braves teams that he played on from 1956 to 1960, including the Braves’ World Series victory in seven games in ’57 and their heartbreaking World Series defeat in seven in ’58. All Heart features Frank’s game-by-game descriptions of the 1957 and 1958 World Series’, and his recollections and anecdotes about all of the great Braves of that era – Henry Aaron, Warren Spahn, Ed Mathews, Lew Burdette, Del Crandall, Felix Mantilla, Johnny Logan, Bill Bruton and many more. All Heart also shares Frank’s memories of the other greats who he knew and played against – Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle, Jackie Robinson, Whitey Ford, Stan Musial, Yogi Berra, Pee Wee Reese, Roberto Clemente, Sandy Koufax and many more and includes more than 125 photos with meticulously researched captions about Frank, his teammates and his opponents. Frank Torre’s timeless account of a baseball life at the peak of one of the great franchises in baseball history makes an important contribution to the history of the Milwaukee Braves and to baseball. Neil will read brief excerpts from All Heart, including Frank comparing Henry Aaron and Willie Mays, Frank’s take on Mickey Mantle, the day in Chicago that Frank tied a baseball record by scoring six times in a single game, the night the Braves won the World Series, and the afternoon they lost it. All Heart will be available in both paperback and hard cover. Light refreshments will be served.
