LABOR DAY WEEKEND WILL impact the Tuesday volleyball slate as a handful of teams will be in action on Wednesday. The highlight of the schedule will be Houston heading into a high-profile game against an Oklahoma team that has a long memory of what the Cougars did to them three years ago at NRG Stadium.
Sunday: Justin Verlander (16-5, 2.69 ERA) opens the month of September for the Astros in the series finale at the Blue Jays beginning at 12:07pm. Toronto goes with Wilmer Font (3-3, 4.35 ERA). AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will start its coverage with the pregame show at 11:30am.
Dana Holgorsen makes his debut as Houston’s head coach when the Cougars visit #4 Oklahoma in a nationally-televised contest (ABC 13) beginning at 6:30pm. The teams met previously in the 2016 regular season opener when UH shocked then-#3 OU 33-23.
Monday: The Astros open a series at the Brewers by handing the ball to Gerrit Cole (15-5, 2.85 ERA). Milwaukee, in the thick of the National League Central chase, counters with Adrian Houser (6-5, 3.52 ERA). Both ESPN and AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will have the game at 3:00pm, with AT&T kicking off its Labor Day coverage at 2:30pm with its pregame show.
Tuesday: Only three high school volleyball matches are slated for the day, with Katy Taylor at Clear Springs, Clear Brook at Fort Bend Ridge Point and Port Neches-Groves at Texas City all starting at 6:30pm.
The high school team tennis slate also has three contests, with each schedule for 3:00pm starts. Clear Springs is at Alvin, Clear Brook visits Clear Falls and Clear Brook takes on host Clear Creek.
Zack Greinke seeks to remain undefeated as an Astros hurler when he brings his overall 14-4 record and 2.99 ERA to the mound in the finale against the Brewers starting at 6:40pm. Milwaukee will hand the ball to former Astros starter Jordan Lyles (9-8, 4.55 ERA), who, like Greinke, was traded to help a playoff contender. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest gets underway with the pregame show at 6:40pm.
