Houston, TX October 8, 2019 –Nearly three weeks after Tropical Storm Imelda struck Southeast Texas, the American Red Cross continues to help people get back on their feet with guidance about resources and the recovery process. Recovery Centers with community partners are available to help people create personal recovery plans, navigate paperwork, and locate assistance from the Red Cross and other agencies. These partners are meeting one-on-one with residents to help them with their specific disaster-caused emergency needs.
RED CROSS RESPONSE
Since September 17, more than 690 Red Cross workers from across the country, along with partners, have:
Provided more than 5,300 overnight stays in shelters
Served more than 66,000 meals and snacks
Distributed more than 34,000 relief supplies including comfort kits with hygiene items like toothbrushes and soap as well as clean-up kits
Red Cross mental health volunteers have made more than 6,100 mental health, spiritual health or health-related contacts with flood survivors
