AREA GIRLS’ HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL teams start playing the games that really count as district season begins for most on Tuesday. The week opens with both the Texans and Cowboys facing critical games that will determine their playoff hopes.
Sunday: The Texans face a must-win situation when they visit the Titans at 12:00pm. Both teams are tied for the AFC South lead, but Tennessee comes in with a four-game win streak while Houston is still shaking off the dust of a surprising collapse last week against Denver. KHOU 11 will have the coverage.
Like the Texans, the Cowboys are in must-win mode as they welcome the Rams to AT&T Stadium. Dallas is tied with Philadelphia in the tepid NFC East with a 6-7 record. Also, like the Texans, the Cowboys are facing a team picking up momentum while Dallas comes off a tough loss at Chicago. Fox 26 will have coverage starting at 3:25pm.
Monday: A handful of high school boys’ basketball games are on the slate as Clear Brook visits Goose Creek Memorial, Clear Springs at Pearland and Hitchcock at Texas City each starting at 7:00pm.
There’s also basketball of the professional variety as the Rockets play host to the in-state rival Spurs beginning at 7:00pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will start coverage starting at 6:30pm with the pregame show.
Tuesday: Soccer (yes, soccer) is around the corner. Texas City’s girls’ soccer squad will get its first look at live action when the Stingarees host Manvel for a scrimmage starting at 7:30pm.
The night also opens district play in girls’ basketball. In District 24-6A, Clear Creek at Clear Brook, Clear Falls at Clear Springs and Clear Lake at Dickinson each get underway at 7:00pm, while the District 22-5A slate will have Friendswood at Baytown Lee, Galveston Ball at Goose Creek Memorial and Crosby at Santa Fe all tipping off at 7:00pm. In non-district action, Brazosport at Hitchcock begins at 7:00pm.
The boys’ basketball schedule will have state-ranked La Marque at state-ranked Port Arthur Memorial, Santa Fe at Sweeny and Hitchcock at Texas City each starting at 7:00pm while Clear Creek at Friendswood gets underway at 7:30pm.
